Abstract

A twenty seven year old, healthy man with no past history of illness, reported to the hospital in the morning with the complaints of chest pain and breathlessness. He was advised admission by the doctor on duty. The patient refused admission citing some family commitments and went home after taking some painkiller. At night around 2300hrs he had severe chest pain and was promptly brought to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Autopsy findings were suggestive of death due to cardiac tamponade, as a result of aortic rupture due to inherent weakness in aortic wall.
