Death of A Child While Playing With The Pen Cap in A School: A Case Report

Abstract

A 7-year-old child was suddenly collapsed in a school while playing with a cap of a sketch pen by putting inside mouth. He was taken by the school teacher immediately to a hospital where he was declared dead. Later there was allegation by the parents that the child was slapped by the teacher for which he died. On autopsy, one sketch pen cap was found embedded inside the upper part of trachea. The cause of death was found to be accidental choking. Although accidental death due to aspiration of a foreign-body are not rare in children, but the circumstance of death and subsequent allegation in this case is unique.
