Abstract

Estimation of time since death may be possible from the study of associated bloodstain. In the present work, aging process of bloodstain had been studied by Spectrophotometric method on prepared samples up to a period of 15 days both qualitatively and quantitatively. Absorption Spectra of dilute Hemoglobin solution extractedfrom bloodstain at regular interval were studied from 400nm to 700nm. Absorption ratio (a ratio) of 575nm peak was calculated and plotted graphically gave an exponential decay curve. Age of unknown blood stain found to be associated with crime, may be determined from the experimental decay curve prepared under similar environmental condition. The age of the bloodstain thus indicate the time of death or time of occurrence of a particular crime, which has great evidentiary value in the investigation of the crime.
