Abstract

This article is aimed to propagate the concept of a ‘Modular Teaching’in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology in India. It is felt necessary to bridge the existing gap due to varied reasons like conflicting resource materials, teaching methods, infrastructure, faculty resource, training of faculty, arbitrariness in subject coverage, and pattern of assessment. These modules will be created in future for both UG and PG education. Here, focus is on PG Modules.

Medical Curriculum is already been laid by MCI and other International Universities, Modules on different topics will be created on following points: 1. Objective of Module 2. Curriculum Content of Module 3. Theoretical and Practical teaching methods to be adopted 4. Practical exercise demonstration through hands-on practical or demonstration videos or other methods as desirable/as per need of Module by experienced teachers 5. Hands-on experience by students 6. Evaluation 7. Legal Questions and answers 8. Problems and solutions thereof

About sixty modules on different topics will be created in two settings of discussions and preparation of practical exercises. All these modules will be discussed among core team members and larger groups by organizing multiple workshops before implementation. In these workshops, modules will be prepared in more organized way so that in the coming time, we are ready to meet new challenges and are able to instill more skills in our professionals at their training stage.

An outline of some modules is given in this article to give an idea to readers to generate interest in this mission.

This modular teaching is aimed to bring uniformity, standardization, common minimum clinical skills among future trainees and teachers irrespective of their setup of working. This will also help in reducing education and training gap between private and government set ups.
