Peritoneal Perforation with Spontaneous Omentum Sealing: An Incidental Finding During Postmortem

Abstract

Omentum is like a policeman of the abdomen which contains inflammation process in the peritoneal cavity and seals any perforation in the intestines as a natural process. Various surgical procedures uses omentum patch to seal intestinal perforation. In the reported postmortem case, an incidental finding of omentum trying to seal a perforation in the peritoneal wall as a natural process, is seen. The deceased died due to sigmoid perforation. No such finding has been reported in forensic literature yet.
