External post-mortem appearance including involuntry discharge with associated trauma in hanging and ligature strangulation in Ajmer district of Rajasthan

Abstract

Hanging has been observed as one of the oldest and widely used human execution method worldwide and is also a standard lawful method well known as Judicial Hanging. Hanging and strangulation differs from each other, the hanging types are mainly homicidal hanging, judicial hanging, autoerotic hanging. External post-mortem appearance including involuntry discharge with associated trauma in hanging and ligature strangulation were studied in Ajmer population of Rajasthan State. Associated trauma was found in all the cases of ligature strangulation while in hanging it was observed 8 (8%) cases only The dribbled and dried saliva was found in 69 (65.71%) cases, presence of semen at glance in 34(32.38%) cases and fecal matter in 32(30.48%) cases of hanging. The presence of blood at mouth and nostrils were found in 12(11.4%) cases and escape of blood from mouth and nostril in 3(60%) cases of ligature strangulation. According to post-mortem interval maximum number of cases parchmentisation were found in hanging (43 cases), followed by reddish brown (37 cases), and then anemic pale (10 cases), in three (3) cases of ligature strangulation it was reddish brown and in two (2) cases parchmentisation was observed.
