Abstract

Accessory nipples (AN), is a common anomaly that is usually restricted to cosmetic concerns. However, the presence of accessory nipple may suggest systemic diseases or associated renal and urinary tract pathology. We report a case series in which systemic diseases, particularly renal pathology, identified during general physical examination and autopsy were linked to AN. We consider that in order to exclude associated urinary tract pathology, a complete general physical examination, urine analysis, and renal ultrasound should be performed in symptomatic individuals with AN. Meticulous post mortem examination should also be performed in cases of death in order to establish the positive association between accessory nipple and systemic diseases.
