The present study was conducted in Karnal district of Haryana to study the profile characteristics of lay inseminators (LIs) and the technical information related to basic animal health services provided by them. The LIs were educated unemployed youth who provide basic animal health services particularly artificial insemination at doorstep after receiving training or learnt this practice from experts. The data were collected randomly from 30 LIsin Karnal district of Haryana with structured interview schedule. The study found that majority of LIs were of young age (73.33%), qualified up to senior secondary (40%), having less experience (43.33%), received one training (50%), low level of income (50%) and medium level of extension contact. Most of them were having medium level of self-perception (43%), scientific temperament (58.34%), knowledge (56.67%), average role performer (60%) and moderately satisfied (54%) towards the services provided by them.
