Abstract

The present study was undertaken in Dhenkanal district of Odisha with an aim to study the level of adoption of Composite Carp Culture technology and its determinants. Primary data were collected from 71 fish farmers practicing composite carp culture using a structured schedule. The average pond area was found to be 0.5 acre and a mean fish yield of 2.1 t/ha/year. The study indicates that 44, 38 and 18 percent of the respondents were in the category of high, medium and low level of adoption respectively. Removal of predatory fish and application of lime were the most widely adopted practices in carp culture by the farmers. The study observed a positive and significant correlation of education level, exposure to mass media, knowledge level and extension contact with level of adoption of composite carp culture technology. It is found that a set of six independent variables collectively explains 52 percent (R2= 52%) of the variation in adoption of the technology. Major constraints include fish feed, bigger fingerling, knowledge and market for disposal.
