Abstract

Cotton is the most important commercial crop of India that is highly contributing in providing raw material needed by textile industry and also providing to about 60 million of people as a source of employment. A total sample of 120 respondents was selected from Lat. 29° 19’ N and Long. 78° 26’ E i.e. Jind District of Haryana State. In this study adoption level, factors affecting adoption and cropping pattern of growing Bt. cotton were assessed. Most of the respondents were belonging to 35–50 years of age group and were educated up to secondary level. Majority of the respondents (71.67 percent) were having medium adoption level. There was also significant association between socio-economic variables like size of land holding, annual income, mass media exposure of the family with adoption level of Bt. cotton farmers. Majority of the respondents preferred to follow cotton-mustard cropping pattern with 56.66 percent followed by cottonwheat with 21.66 percent, cotton-berseem with 15 percent and cotton-chickpea with 6.68 percent respectively. Bt. cotton growing is beneficial for the farmers so it should be expanded among the cotton growers in order to get higher yield and benefits.
