Social media platforms have been a crucial component for the distribution of information during a pandemic, as communication has never before been feasible so swiftly in human history. Social media has played a pivotal role as a communication tool for governments, organizations, and educational institutions in disseminating information to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there are numerous benefits and drawbacks of using social media. Although the pandemic has brought to light how important societies and stakeholders are now embracing the ability to interact directly with content creators, implement checklists, and issue revisions at a rapid rate and on a vast scale. Social media nowadays have been considered a form of nearly instantaneous communication. Keeping in mind the fact that social media influences how people perceive information received from different sources, subsequent decision-making, and risk-taking behaviors. The reviewer conducted an assessment of peer-reviewed empirical studies relevant to COVID-19 and social media. The present paper is planned to analyze the impact, benefits, and drawbacks of information shared on social media during the COVID-19 pandemic.
