Abstract

A Crop-based economies, such as India, require highly productive (effective and efficient) scientific staff to maintain agricultural growth and development and enhance farmers’ socio-economic conditions. The concern of the study is the declining academic and research standards, particularly in research institutions in India. Hence, the study’s research productivity is crucial for academic success and for ranking and rating higher educational institutions. Research productivity is operationally defined as a comprehensive measure of generating the number of publications, securing intellectual property rights, completing projects, developing e-content, and delivering consultancy during the professional career of an agricultural researcher. The purpose of this study was to determine the quantitative markers associated with the research productivity of agricultural researchers and to measure the research productivity of agricultural researchers using the index developed for the study. An ex-post facto research design was used for the study. The quantitative markers associated with research productivity are as follows: Publication, e-content, research projects, Intellectual Property Rights, and Consultancy. With the help of the research productivity index developed, it was found that 79% of agricultural researchers are in the category of low to medium level of research productivity.
