Abstract

The study was conducted to analyse the constraints experienced by the dairy farmers in adapting climate variability practices in northern dry zone of Karnataka. A total 120 samples from two selected districts, namely Bellary and Raichur, were selected. The collected data were analysed through Garret ranking method. Major constraints faced by the dairy farmers were poor awareness on climate variability adaptation and mitigation practices (61.61 Garrett's Mean Score (GMS)); low knowledge about climate variability and its impact (59.91 GMS); application of adaptation practices is entirely new and somewhat technical (58.25 GMS); insufficient fund from government for climate information like early warning system, automatic weather station etc. (43.48 GMS); lack of scientific and validated traditional knowledge for adaptation strategies (41.12 GMS) and inadequate training regarding climate information and its effects on agriculture (38.56 GMS). The constraints were ranked based on Garret mean scores.
