Listening Behavior of Sadhana Community Radio beneficiary farmers

Abstract

In December 2002, the Government of India approved a policy for the grant of licenses for setting up of Community Radio Stations to well established educational institutions including IITs/IIMs. The present study was conducted in Amravati district of Maharashtra State with 150 listener farmers of Sadhana Community Radio Station, Durgapur. Sadhana Community Radio Station is established under Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Durgapur (Badnera). The findings indicates that majority of respondents were aware about the programme “Mi shetakri bolato aani Grampanchayat”(96.00%) and “Sad pratisad” (90.00%).

Majority of the respondents had full attention towards the programmes “ Mi shetakari bolato aani Grampanchayat”, “Sad pratisad”, “Gramgeeta/Ambavani” with percentage of (70.00%), (64.00%), (50.00%) respectively. The programmes “Mi shetakri bolato aani Grampanchayat”, “Sad pratisad” and “Dinvishesh” were regularly listened by the respondents. The majority of the respondents used to listen the radio programmes without doing any work. The respondents with percentage of 34.00 per cent used to listen the radio programmes with taking notes of important points and reading. About 76.00 per cent of the respondents used to listen the radio for half an hour in a day. The programmes “Mi shetakri bolato aani Grampanchayat”, “Sad pratisad” were fully understood by the majority of the listeners. The programme “Nabho Natya” was not understood by the majority of the respondents (76.00%).

Majority of the respondents 64.00 per cent had the regular discussion about the programme “Sad pratisad”. The programme “Nabho Natya” was never discussed by the 80.00 per cent of the respondents. About (72.00%) listeners had medium level of listening behaviour, whereas 16.00 per cent of listeners exhibited low level listening behavior. Only 12.00 per cent listeners had high level of listening.
