A Ridit Approach to Evaluate the Barriers to Green Manufacturing in Indian Context

Abstract

The demand of adopting green technologies across the world is at rise, following the growing environmental concerns. In spite, there is lack in initiatives for implementing green technologies across the sectors. The present research is an attempt to understand what the barriers to green manufacturing are in the Indian context. The study undergone extensive literature review to identify various barriers to green manufacturing and twenty one barriers to green manufacturing implementation were explored. Ten statements on barriers to green manufacturing were found to be having mean value more than five and were extracted for further analysis. The RIDIT approach was applied to understand the precedence of these barriers from the perspective of the managers and for concluding the study with managerial insights for policy making. The study concludes that poor suppliers’ awareness and support; and weak organizational structure to support green manufacturing are the two most significant barriers for adoption of green manufacturing practices. The study suggests a road map for the environmentally conscious decision makers to frame their policies that can help and facilitate the adoption of green manufacturing practices among the industries. Precedence among the explored barriers help the decision makers to prioritize their policy directions toward an environmentally conscious manufacturing processes and setups in the Country.
