Abstract

Commerce education provides knowledge of business, trade and industry and also train up people to work in different functional areas of an organization. The growth and development of industry owing to globalization and advancement in information technology have resulted in the increased demand for specialized education in the field of commerce. Practical based and skill – oriented pedagogy is the need of today’s world. Commerce graduates can find ample opportunities in diverse fields of business, research, investment and securities, auditing, digital marketing, e-commerce etc. This study aims to explore the students’ perception regarding the preferred job sector; the challenges faced by them and also the reasons for unemployability. In this study an attempt is made to suggest means for increasing employability amongst commerce students. Chi square test and Spearman’s rank correlation has been applied to analyze the relation between some vital aspects of Commerce education by using SPSS 20 version. The major findings of the study reflects that Banking organization is the most preferred job sector amongst the students, Focusing only on academic courses is the main issue for unemployment and Campus recruitment and placement is the best way to increase employability after the completion of the commerce course.
