Abstract

Indian airline was enjoying the monopoly till the year 1994. It started facing stark competition from the players after the amendment of Air Corporation Act, 1953, wherein private players were allowed to fly. The management decided to merge Indian airlines and Air India after dwindling condition of both the airlines to overcome the pressing financial condition. But the merger failed in true sense and the repercussions were quite alarming. After the merger. Air India passed through series of disputes and strikes for which Civil Aviation Ministry was compelled to interfere to harmonise and normalise the situation. The case eventually sums up with few questions which, if addressed, can provide possible solution to avert the long standing deadlock between management and union.
