Training, a planned intervention leads to development. Training and development, a dynamic function, require different learning approaches and continuous improvements and feedback for further improvements. Organizational needs and external environment including government rules and regulations are creating compelling conditions, which necessitate appropriate learning interventions and pedagogies in organizations. The new paradigm of globalization and technological advancements has significantly changed the way people lead their personal lives and organizations transit business. Therefore, training and development or HRD intervention in organizational context answer performance related problems emerging due to lack of skills, information, knowledge, positive and ‘can do’ flttitudinal problems.

Contents of the book has been well presented under twenty four chapters starting from introduction to training and development and culminating into suggesting developing a scheme of higher education for empowering employees. The contents journey travelled a long distance included need analysis of training to designing a tailor made training program with various permutations and combinations of different training methods and modules applicable to different level of employees. Executive coaching for developing leadership hierarchy in organizational set-ups has been presented in a coherent manner and can be used by organizations in developing their leadership hub and hierarchy to meet the present and future emerging challenges nationally and globally. In nutshell, each chapter of the book is comprehensive enough in terms of the rich contents and almost latest references. The programmed learning oriented set of questions appended with each chapter make the reader to seriously read, comprehend and deeply ponder over the chapter contents meticulously for arriving at considered opinion.

The book is a modest attempt by the author in making readers understand various HRD functions from the hard core basics to advanced level and their applications for adding quantitatively positive values to business. Inclusion of research findings and case studies along with pictures, charts and tables has provided valuable insights to readers in understanding the subject easily. Simple language and contextual examples add value to the book and make it quite handy to faculty, scholars and researchers in the management discipline. It will certainly be a value addition to the library shelf for ready reference by all concerned, who are deeply and emotionally weeded with the endeavors of making training and development a very serious subject in India, strongly advocated by late Prof. Udai Pareek.
