Abstract

IT’S ALL TO DO WITH TRAINING: “YOU CAN DO A LOT IF YOU’RE PROPERLY TRAINED”.

-ELIZABETH II

Employee training is becoming a necessity to every organisation now-a-day. Employees are entrusted different roles and responsibilities in the banks. Training enables them to carry out these roles and responsibilities efficiently and also learn new things, which will prepare them to take up higher responsibilities in the future. In this paper, an attempt has been made to evaluate and compare the training objectives and training need identification methods followed in Public and Private Sector Banks. Questionnaire was developed based on three dimensions viz., general, specific and soft skills. It was distributed to 44 bank employees. Further in order to understand whether there are any differences between the two categories of banks regarding the training needs the % test was conducted. The findings of this study discovered that the training needs of public and private Sector Banks do not differ significantly. The study found that significant differences exist between the two categories of banks regard to the training objectives and training need identification methods being adopted.
