A review on the energy efficient vertical handover techniques in heterogeneous wirleless networks

In the next generation wireless networks, the focus is on the selection of the best networkfor the heterogeneous network environment to provide the high service availability, high mobility and energy efficient selection of the network not only under the Anywhere, Anytime, but also under the always best connected paradigms. It is important to consider the user requirement as well as network parameters to decide a proper energy efficient handoff strategy which selects the best connecting network. Nowadays, the burning topic in Industry is Energy Efficiency as frequent handovers between different NICs causes Battery discharge at a high rate, so energy is an important factor for seamless handover. It is required to provide Energy Efficient approach which prolongs the battery life of mobile terminal by efficient interchange in NICs for seamless mobility in multitude of wireless network access technologies along with best services to the end user. In this review paper, energy efficient techniques are presented with their future directions.
