The livestock products development mission is an important segment in Meghalaya, which can promote self-sustainability and gainful employment to the people of the state. This paper presents the analysis of changing livestock products scenario in Meghalaya which would be helpful to generalize demand and supply of livestock products in the north-eastern region. The study showed that there was 100% increase in milk production in the state in the last three decades with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.4%, possibly, because of the introduction of crossbred cows. Also, there was an increase in egg production in the state (CAGR 2.3%), possibly, because of the increase in number of layers and not because of increased production from the layers. The high demand for meat and shift towards poultry lead to significant increase in growth of meat production (CAGR 3.8%). Conclusively it emerged that more efforts are needed for qualitative improvement in all classes of indigenous domestic stock. The focus should be towards increasing productivity and per capita availability of various livestock products.
