Inheritance studies on resistance to bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum) in tomato from six generations (parents, F1 s, F2 s, BC1 and BC2) of four crosses involving resistant and susceptible parents were conducted during summer season of 2008. The study clearly indicated the involvement of more than one interacting genes. Further it was also observed that there is a significant role of additive and dominance components and their interactions in the expression of bacterial wilt resistance in tomato. Therefore, breeders must employ suitable breeding methods capitalizing these components in breeding programmes against bacterial wilt resistant varieties/hybrids in tomato.
