Abstract

The manifold advantages and benefits of implementing Smart Grid in electricity sector are well-known. However, varied outcomes have been reported when the same technologies, especially the metering technologies, were implemented in different parts of the world. Mere deployment of technologies like Smart Metering will not facilitate meeting the objectives of Smart Grid. This paper aims at throwing light on other dimensions of Smart Grid, i.e. Processes, People and Policies that also determine its success to a large extent. Smart metering being the “face of Smart Grid” holds its importance amongst the processes that come under the Smart Grid umbrella. The paper is an attempt for suggesting a framework that will help utilities determine the process changes required for reaping the benefits of Smart Metering as a building block for Smart Grid in India.
