Abstract

Many gas turbine plants in the world are not equipped with instrumentation for air flow rate measurement to the combustor. Since explicit estimates of air flow rate are required for quantification of the state and operational efficiencies of compressor, combustor & expander of the gas turbine, the present paper presents an algorithm based on detailed formulations of conservation of energy and mass by which the true air flow into the gas turbine can be computed and operational state of the gas turbine identified. The mathematical formulations presented in the paper are complemented with a case study using data obtained from a gas turbine power plant.
