Customized solutions for harnessing hydro power

Maximising the gains for the hydro projects and delivering highest value to our customers has always been the prime objective of BHEL be it improving the efficiency of Primemover (Turbine), extending the range of stable operation of machines or providing customized hydraulic design solutions for unique challenges in live hydro projects. Besides addressing the special requirements of accommodating the Turbine in restricted cavern, suiting the civil layout is also a must for designers. This paper presents the customized solutions delivered for two of our major ongoing projects, Polavaram & Ratle Hydro Electric Power Plant, where the design had to be modified at a very later stage of the project considering site-specific challenges. This paper showcases BHEL's strength in hydraulic design and the latest technological tools like CFD Analysis for addressing challenges in Hydro project execution.
