Abstract

Present study was carried out from 1st January 2006 to 31st December 2006 at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research, Surat. This center has been authorized to perform medicolegal post mortems of five police station areas of the Surat city, Railway police station is the one of them. Surat railway station is situated about 1.5 km. away from the institute and is in the center of the city. About 200 trains pass per day from this station. About one lack people comute daily from this station.

During present study period 1016 total postmortem have been conducted, out of them 262 cases i.e. 25.79% brought by Surat railway police station.

Cause of death in majority of the cases was shock as a result of haemorrhage either due to multiple injuries or head injury. Various aspects have been discussed in this paper.
