Abstract

Self injury, also called self-harm or self-mutilation is defined as any intentional injury to one's own body while self suffered wounds are those which are inflicted upon oneself with the help of another person. As a forensic expert, one should keep an open mind considering, in every case, the likelihood of a self-inflicted injury as a result of malicious intent.

We report two cases of self-inflicted injuries over neck, one claiming assault by a third person and the other a case of suicidal cut throat.

Meticulous examination of patient is necessary to differentiate between suicidal and homicidal injuries
