Abstract

Plants can serve as factories for production of medicinal compounds with immense trade value. 16 medicinally important plants belonging to different families were investigated for VAM fungal association. The medicinal plants were Acorus calamus, Ageratum conyzoides, Aloe-vera, Spilanthus calve, Wedelia chinensis etc. Presence of 12 VAM fungi associated with these plants were identified upto species level. An attempt was therefore, made to evaluate the presence and status of VAM fungi in some selected medicinal plants. The application of VAM fungi can be useful to increase the production of essential medicinal principles by plants.
