Abstract

The present study focuses on the Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKIA). VKIA is a major industrial area in Jaipur. The soil pollution is being created by the marble industries; therefore the study was focused on marble industries only. Soil samples collected from the VKIA zone and from the vicinity areas were analyzed for various parameters such as pH, Electrical Conductivity, Water holding capacity, Total Organic Carbon of surface and deeper layers soil. It was observed that pH, Electrical Conductivity, Water holding capacity, Total Organic Carbon of surface and deeper layers soil was between 7.12 to 9.00 and 7.00 to 8.85, 192 μmho/cm to 2780 μmho/cm and 228μmho/cm to 2940 μmho/cm, 29.9% to 42.7% and 33.4% to 45.2%, 0.1478% to 0.5311% and 0.1795% to 0.5557% respectively. The effluents from the marble industries are disposed off untreated in the soil. Such contaminated soil is used for many agriculture activities. Therefore present study was designed to see the effect of marble industry effluents on the soil fertility.
