Abstract

Callus cultures were raised from leaf and petiole explants of Artemisia absinthium L. and shoot tips were used for direct organogenesis. Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with different hormonal concentrations and combinations were used throughout the entire study. Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 2, 4-D and NAA in singly or in combination proved best for callus induction from all types of explants. Multiple shoots from shoot tip explants were produced at kinetin singly and in combination of BAP with NAA. Best root initiation was observed at NAA and in combination of BAP with NAA. During the entire study leaves were observed best for callus induction and shoot tips for direct organogenesis.
