The preliminary phytochemical screening and antimicrobial activity of head inflorescence and root of Spilanthes calva DC were carried out against oral microflora. Alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, tannins, triterpenoides, polyuronoids, chlorogenic acids, steroids, gums and mucilage were present in aqueous extract of head inflorescence and root. Data from the present study revealed that, ethanol extract of head inflorescence and root of Spilanthes calva DC, as potential source for management of oral health care and phytochemical investigation may lead to a new choice for active compounds.
