Abstract

Plumbago zeylanica L. (Family-Plumbaginaceae) is an important medicinal plant species used for the cure of several ailments. A high frequency and rapid regeneration protocol was developed from shoot tip explants of Plumbago zeylanica using Murashige and Skoog media, supplemented with different concentration and combinations of growth hormones. The best shoot proliferation (86%) with an average of 17.72 shoots per explant was observed on media adjuvant with (BAP l. SmgL"1 + IBA 0.5mgL4 + Ads OJSmgl"1). The regenerated shoots were further elongated on the same media. Microshoots rooted well on half strength MS medium appended with O^ingl1 IBA with 19.46 roots per shoot at an average root length of 7.03 cm with average rooting response of 99.67%. After acclimatization and transplantation, 100% of the in-vitro derived plants were found in fine fettle in ex vivo conditions.
