Ninty four algal species were reported from different freshwater habitats of Nagaland, including 16 Cyanophyta (Cyanoprokaryota), 35 Chlorophyta, 17 Euglenophyta and 26 Heterokontophyta (Bacillariophyceae). Among these taxa, 10 species were reported for the first time in India. This is a first record of freshwater algae from Nagaland, as the previous reports were confined only to Cyanophyta from the rice fields and moist soil surfaces.
