A detailed pachytene karyotype analysis was carried out in several accessions of Setaria italica (L.) Beauv. The pachytene chromosomes of different accessions showed well marked variations in the length of the long arms, short arms and of the total chromosomes. Asignificant variability was noticed in the amount and distribution pattern of chromomeres.
