Abstract

Convolvulus pluricaulis Choisy of family Convolvulaceae is an indigenous plant mainly advocated as brain tonic. The protocol was developed which could produce a large number of somatic embryoids and regenerate plantlets. The leaf explant was cultured on MS basal medium supplemented with various combinations of 2, 4-D: Kinetin (1: 1, 2: 2, 3: 3, 4: 4, 5: 5 mg/l) to raise callus and embryoids. The higher concentration of 5 mg/l 2, 4-D and kinetin each resulted in highly differentiated embryoids while lower concentrations gave rise to only nonembryonic callogenic cells. Maximum numbers of embryoids were germinated successfully on medium with 0.25 mg NAA+ 3 mg/l kinetin.
