Abstract

The Mangrove Vegetation of River Pennar and its tributaries covering over 3000 Ha in Nellore district, of Andhra Pradesh, is small yet diverse in area. The structure and floristic composition of plant community in relation to salinity have been analysed in the present study. Concomitant with regional climate an association of Avicennia marina-Excoecaria agallocha-Rhizophora mucronata-Bruguiera cylindrica-Ceriops decandra-and Lumintzera racemosa is recognised as scrubs with emergents upto 6 m high. Variation in salinity and Zonation pattern of true mangrove elements and associated flora present along river Pennar, and its tributaries Swarnamukhi, Upputeru, Pambaleru and Kalangi are described in this paper.
