Abstract

Spirulina platensis IBSD-174 was isolated from freshwater Loktak lake of Manipur, India during 2005–06 and partial characterization with special attention on morphological and biochemical has been done. The soluble protein content stabilized and enhanced up to 82.7±0.08 μg/ml with the treatment of different level of pH, nitrogen and phosphorus for consecutive three years in laboratory conditions. The strain was deposited and obtained accession number from the fresh water cyanobacterial and microalgal repository of IBSD-DBT, Imphal, Manipur, INDIA a creation of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India (Ref. No.: BT/PR11323/PBD/26/171/2008 dated 31st March 2009) for ready reference and commercial exploitation in future.
