Abstract

Usnea ghattensis Awasthi has been collected from Eastern Ghat localities of Andhra Pradesh (Araku valley, Visakhapatnam District), India in the year 2012. The lichen could not be grown in culture and mycobiont culturing did not result in the production of required fungal biomass for usnic acid estimation. Therefore the fresh thalli of Usnea ghattensis were subjected for the recording the presence of Usnic acid using crude water extracts employing TLC method. Results have indicated the presence of usnic acid.
