Abstract

Chlorophyll is the backbone of food productivity. Therefore, research has been done to increase chlorophyll content in the plants from time to time. During present investigation efforts are made to compensate damaging effect of acid rain towards chlorophyll degradation in leaves through interaction with auxin (indole acetic acid) in the plants of Capsicum frutescens var. California wonder. For this purpose young plants were treated with simulated acid rain (pH 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0), auxin solutions of (1.0 x 10 −5, 1.0 x 10−6 and 1.0 x 10−7 M) concentrations as well as pH-auxin binary solutions of different combinations (3.0 + 1.0 x 10−5 M, 3.0 + 1.0 x 10−6 M, 3.0 +1x 1.0−7 M; 4.0 + 1.0 x 10−5 M, 4.0 + 1.0 x 10−6 M, 4.0 + 1.0 x 10−7 M & 5.0 + 1.0 x 10−5 M, 5.0 + 1.0 x 10−6 M, 5.0 + 1.0 x 10−7 M) and chlorophyll content is determined at 45, 60, 75, 90 and 105th days. Best total chlorophyll content is at pH 5.0 [176.88% of control at 90th day]. 1x10−7 M concentration is best for total chlorophyll [141.63% of control at 105th day]. In case of interactive effect best combination of pH and auxin is pH 4.0+1x10−7 M [total chlorophyll=191.94% of control at 90th day].
