Abstract

The aim of the current study was to screen out the presence of Quercetin and Antioxidant activity in methanolic extract of Cissus quadrangularis, Cassia fistula and Calotropis procera by utilizing their plant parts using TLC. Prescence of Quercetin was marked by the yellow fluorescent spots when observed under U.V and in the form of grey coloured spot by spraying FeCl3 while antioxidant activity was marked by the spray of 0.2% DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) solution. In case of Quercetin the Rf values for the different samples were also determined. The present study experimentally proved that the traditional use of Cissus quadrangularis, Cassia fistula and Calotropis procera for the treatment of various diseases may also lead to the development of drugs having both chemotherapeutic and chemopreventive properties in future.
