Abstract

Seeds of candidate plus trees were collected from different locations of Chhattisgarh and a progeny trial was established in the experimental field of Baronda Research farm of National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, Raipur, Chhattisgarh in 1998. 18 years old progenies were evaluated for studying the various morphological characteristics and for estimating genetic parameters for the selection of superior stand of Dalbergia sissoo Roxb during 2016–17. Analysis of variance showed significant difference between the different progenies for total height, straight bole height and diameter at breast height. Straight bole height was found to be strongly governed by genetic architecture of the species (h: 67.01%). Straight bole height had highest magnitude of genetic co-efficient of variation (42.70%) among the different growth characters. The highest genetic gain as percentage of mean was recorded for straight bole height (72%).
