Humoral immune response against fimbrial protein (FP) of Salmonella Typhimurium was monitored in four groups of mice inoculated with either killed whole cell (KWC) antigens of S. Typhimurium 585 (fimbriate strain) or S. Typhimurium 625 (non fimbriate) or purified fimbrial protein of S. Typhimurium 585 or mock preparation, employing the haemagglutination inhibition test (HAl) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The antifnnbrial antibodies were detected in serum samples collected on 16 and 28 days post inoculation (DPI) from mice immunized with the FP and the KWC 585 antigen, whereas, mice immunized with the KWC 625 and mock preparation failed to mount significant level of antifnnbrial antibodies (P >0.05). Comparison of HAl and ELISA titres revealed significant correlation (p< 0.05). However, ELISA titres were of significantly high magnitude (P< 0.05).
