Abstract

Lymphocyte transfonnation responses (LTRs) to B. melitensis Rev. I whole cell killed antigen were measured in mice vaccinated with live B. melitensis B115, a rough strain, B. melitensis Rev. 1, a smooth strain and their hot saline extract (HS). The LTRs between 4–6 weeks post inoculation (pi) in live S Rev. 1 vaccinated group varied with stimulation index (SI) ranging from 5.46 to 11.50 and persisted upto 12 weeks pi. In live SB 115 vaccinated group of mice the LTRs varied with SI ranging from 7.94 to 11.62 and persisted upto 10 weeks pi. The highest LTRs were observed at 8 week pi. The similar trends were observed in mice vaccinated with HS of SB 115 and S Rev. 1. The findings of the present study indicated that SB 115, a rough strain, has the potential of inducing cell mediated immune response.
