Abstract

Immunological response to Brucella melitensis infection was studied in levamisole treated as well as untreated guinea-pigs using brucellin test, standard tube agglutination test (SAT) and Dot-enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (Dot-ELISA). Delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH), as evident by intense cellular reaction to brucellin was observed to be more pronounced in animals infected with B. melitensis but not administered with levamisole. Brucella antibodies were detected by SAT and Dot-ELISA on day 14 of infection in both levamisole treated and untreated guinea-pigs. However, a difference in the antibody response, as detected by the two assays, was evident in the two groups.
