Abstract

To study the effects of pesticides namely gamma-benzene hexachloride (ã-BHC) and quinalphos in chickens, 120, aged 1 week were randomly divided into 3 groups of 40 birds each. Group I birds served as control while group II and III birds were administered ã-BHC (6.5%) and quinalphos (25% EC) respectively in feed for 8 weeks. There serum was used to estimate calcium and phosphorous.. In group II the calcium and phosphorous values were significantly reduced as compared to control group. Similarly, in group III, the calcium and phosphorous values were significantly less than the corresponding values in birds of group I, II. Present study indicate that the multiple low doses of ã-BHC and quinalphos lowers the serum calcium and phosphorous levels.
