Abstract

The ruminant spleen has important functions in immunity and haematopoiesis, many of which have been well studied. In contrast, we know much less about the early embryonic development. The study was conducted on 18 goat foetus ranging from 30 days of age to full term pregnancy. These foetuses were divided into three age groups i.e.<60 days of age, 60–90 days of age and >90 days of age. The spleen was collected and biometrical parameters were recorded. The spleen was found high in the abdominal cavity adjacent to the vertebral column in the region of 12–13th ribs in all age group. The color of spleen was varies with development. First it was creamish then gradually becomes reddish. The shape of the spleen was quadrilateral in all three groups. The length is 2.36±0.44 cm in >90days, 0.6±0.14 cm in 60- 90days and 0.3± 0.1cm in 60days. The width is 1.72± 0.44 cm in >90days, 0.4± 0.1 cm in 60- 90days and 0.2± 0.08 cm in,60days and The thickness is 0.62± 0.13 cm in >90days, 0.32± 0.11 cm in 60- 90days and 0.12± 0.5 cm in,60days.
