Department of Pathology, College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India

Abstract

The effect of endosulfan and chlorpyriphos on humoral immune response was studied in one hundred chicks of 2 weeks age for a period of 2 months using “No Observable Adverse Effects Level” (NOAEL) dose. Chicks were divided into 3 groups and vaccinated with New Castle Disease Vaccine. B-lymphocyte blastogenesis assay using lipopolysaccharide as mitogen and ELISA was performed to assess humoral immune response in chicks. There was significant reduction in specific antibody titres against “New Castle Disease” Vaccine and reduction in B lymphocyte blastogenesis in pesticides fed birds indicating immunosuppressive effect of endosulfan and chlorpyriphos.
