Abstract

The anti-cancer properties of Livopil, a herbal formulation containing various herbs were studied. Carcinogenicity was induced by diethyl nitrosamine (DEN). In a single dose DEN challenged animals were given Livopil daily and were named as test group. For control group, no DEN and no treatment was given. Negative control was given only DEN, to check its carcinogenicity with the control and the test group. Tumors developed in negative control animals that died early, but no mortality was observed in the test group. The results showed that there was a significant increase in certain hepatic enzymes as compared with the control group. The test group had shown significant hepatoprotective and anticarcinogenic activity against DEN.
