Abstract

Alphacypermethrin is a highly active type-II pyrethroid insecticide. It is being widely used for the protection of vegetables and fruits due to its activity against lepidopterans and aphids. Present sub acute study was planned to know the effect of Alphacypermethrin on humoral and cell mediated immunity in mice. The group C1 was administered Carboxy methyl cellulose and served as pesticide vehicle control. Group T1, T2 and T3 were given as 1/40th (low dose), 1/30th (medium dose) and 1/20th of LD50 (high dose) of Alphacypermethrin suspended in Carboxy methyl cellulose respectively. The blood samples were collected from mice after 28 days of oral administration and analyzed for hematological, biochemical, and immunological parameters. There was significant decrease in antibody titer against SRBC in mice that received high dose of Alphacypermethrin (T3) as compared to pesticide vehicle control group (C1), while low and medium dose Alphacypermethrin group (T1 and T2) showed non significant decrease in antibody titer against SRBC as compared to pesticide vehicle control group (C1). There were non significant differences in paw skin thickness of mice that received different doses of Alphacypermethrin.
