Abstract

Hemorrhagic septicemia (HS) caused by Pasteurella multocida (P. multocida) B:2 is a fatal disease of cattle and buffaloes causing heavy mortality. Present study attempts to improve the HS vaccines by cultivation of P. multocida under iron restricted and iron sufficient conditions and the use of better adjuvants like saponin and bacterial DNA (bDNA). In this study WI+-AS and WI¯-AS vaccine motifs performed better and induce high levels of IgG response as compared to conventional vaccine (CV) and other vaccine motif gps. Both WI+-AS and WI¯-AS vaccine motifs, are safe, easily syringable due to aqueous consistency, and efficacious in mouse model. Further, WI+-AS and WI¯-AS vaccine motifs also demonstrated 100% protection level in efficacy trials where as CV afforded 80% protection. We have found that WI+-AS and WI¯-AS vaccine motifs are superior to other vaccine tested.
